understandinguncertainty.org was produced by the Winton programme for the public understanding of risk based in the Statistical Laboratory in the University of Cambridge. The aim was to help improve the way that uncertainty and risk are discussed in society, and show how probability and statistics can be both useful and entertaining.

Many of the animations were produced using Flash and will no longer work.

I had a dream in which a name was spoken in a phone call so clearly that I made sure I wrote it down the moment I awoke. The name was 'Eugene Field'. A week later I stayed up later than usual and was switching television channels when I heard the name 'Eugene Field'...it was the History Channel discussing Eugene Field Jr. ; the most infamous forger of Lincoln signatures & documents. And his father Eugene Field Sr. was the poet who wrote the children's rhyme 'Winkin' Blinkin' & Nod'....which is about... SLEEP and dreams.
