understandinguncertainty.org was produced by the Winton programme for the public understanding of risk based in the Statistical Laboratory in the University of Cambridge. The aim was to help improve the way that uncertainty and risk are discussed in society, and show how probability and statistics can be both useful and entertaining.

Many of the animations were produced using Flash and will no longer work.

I was in a town in the northern territories in australia called katherine which is an out of the way place. i was staying in a dormitory style accomodation when 4 people arrived next door,i could hear birmingham accents, being from there myself i went to see them & it turned out we were only a half a mile from each other at home, i commented that it was a small world, the one lad said ,not half you used to play football with my old man.when i got back home i saw his dad in the pub, he said when did you last see my son, i said, in a canoe paddling up the river to katherine gorge.
