understandinguncertainty.org was produced by the Winton programme for the public understanding of risk based in the Statistical Laboratory in the University of Cambridge. The aim was to help improve the way that uncertainty and risk are discussed in society, and show how probability and statistics can be both useful and entertaining.

Many of the animations were produced using Flash and will no longer work.

My Mother was the 'daughter of a Scottish Regiment' (The Seaforth Highlanders - Grandfather served in the Boer War, Khyber Pass and the First World War etc). When she died we had a St. Andrew"s Flag on her Coffin and a Piper, piped her in to and out of the Church. The next day, her ashes were buried in the family grave. It was then we realised it was St. Andrew's Day

My Father, who, amongst many other things, flew Spitfires in the Battle of Britain. My Father died on the 27 April 2007 at about 2.00-2.30pm. Shortly after this, the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight took to the skies at RAF Coningsbury on a test run after they had been grounded for repair and maintenance. The Funeral took place on the 8th May. We later discovered that this is the anniversary of VE Day.
