understandinguncertainty.org was produced by the Winton programme for the public understanding of risk based in the Statistical Laboratory in the University of Cambridge. The aim was to help improve the way that uncertainty and risk are discussed in society, and show how probability and statistics can be both useful and entertaining.
Many of the animations were produced using Flash and will no longer work.
In "003 I purchased an old house. T^he first thing we did on getting possesion was to remove a Lino floor covering. Underneath this were old newspapers. The first paper I picked up was the front page of Sporting Life of 1948. The picture was of Thames rowing club winning the Grand Challenge Cup at Henley. My father was a member of this crew and thus was in the photo!
