understandinguncertainty.org was produced by the Winton programme for the public understanding of risk based in the Statistical Laboratory in the University of Cambridge. The aim was to help improve the way that uncertainty and risk are discussed in society, and show how probability and statistics can be both useful and entertaining.

Many of the animations were produced using Flash and will no longer work.

I run a BnB in Brittany, France. Here are just two of many events that have occurred in recent years that I can only describe as amazing coincidences: 1)totally separate bookings from 2 Italian families, for the same dates. They arrive within minutes of each other...and the guys throw their arms around each other in amazement: a surgeon and an anaesthetist who used to work together. 2)new clients arrive from Lille, some 600 km away. On the way here they stopped at a services to eat and got talking to another couple - who had just been staying at my next-door neighbour's and were on their way home.
