Chance meeting in Jersey

understandinguncertainty.org was produced by the Winton programme for the public understanding of risk based in the Statistical Laboratory in the University of Cambridge. The aim was to help improve the way that uncertainty and risk are discussed in society, and show how probability and statistics can be both useful and entertaining.

Many of the animations were produced using Flash and will no longer work.

I lived at home with my parents in Beckenham My girlfriend lived in Islington, london. Two of my teanage friends while I lived at home were Robert and Jill. In their twenties they married and moved away. I didn't see them after that. My girlfriend and I married and moved to Clapham, London. Two years after we married we went to Jersey for a holiday. One day in St Helier my wife and i were walking around the shops. Then across the road were Robert & Jill. We couldn't believe it. Alan.

My wife and Iived in a house in Bromley. We decided to decorate the dining room.
We went out and chose a wallpaper that we both liked.

A couple of weeks after we had completed the decorating we made a visit to my wife's parents who lived in Islington, London.

We let ourselves in, and went into the apartment.
We were amazed that my mother in law had chosen exactly the same wallpaper for her living/dining room as we had.
neither my wife or her mother even new that each other were decorating.
