understandinguncertainty.org was produced by the Winton programme for the public understanding of risk based in the Statistical Laboratory in the University of Cambridge. The aim was to help improve the way that uncertainty and risk are discussed in society, and show how probability and statistics can be both useful and entertaining.

Many of the animations were produced using Flash and will no longer work.

I went to film school with a guy named Zack. We weren't super close, but we worked on some films together and were friendly.

I graduated August 2005. I moved to Los Angeles for an internship at a small film production company in Beverly Hills. I lived in a house in Hollywood. I did little else at this time besides go to work and go home and do more work. So most of my routine kept me in that small area. The exception was church. I found a great church in Burbank and I started going to Sunday services and Bible study on Wednesday nights.

About two months in I was up in Burbank on a Wednesday night. I needed gas, so I pulled over at a random gas station I had never been to before. I filled up and got back in my truck. I just happened to look up into my rear view mirror and BAM, there's Zack.

We're in a metropolitan area of like 8 million people and just happened to go to the same gas station on the same night at the same time AND I just happened to look in my rear view mirror at the right time.
