understandinguncertainty.org was produced by the Winton programme for the public understanding of risk based in the Statistical Laboratory in the University of Cambridge. The aim was to help improve the way that uncertainty and risk are discussed in society, and show how probability and statistics can be both useful and entertaining.

Many of the animations were produced using Flash and will no longer work.

So, I left my home back on the coast of Croatia, in February 2014, and was helping my friends in Alameda, California, babysitting their child. I was also asked to help with another baby, and family lives on Lake Shore drive, by the beach. There's a 4 lane road, then sidewalk, and a sand beach, with just occasional bushes of some weed, mostly sand.

When I was leaving my home, I left 4 cats behind, 2 persian older cats, who lived with me 14 yrs before I left, and their daugther, short hair black cat, and Nero, he was born in 2008, being black with extremely long hair, no one wanted to adopt him because he was black, but then I said I'm not giving him away and kept him. He was the most precious cat, being friend with a parrot and so connected to me.

I'm not sure was it 3 or 4 months since I left, I was walking fussy baby in the stroller near shore line on the sidewalk. All the time since I got there I was wondering how come I never ever saw a cat on the street, so common in my own country. I mean raccoon, rats, squirrels, bunnies, but no cats!

So walking I noticed in the sand lying by one of the bushes, a black cat, sort of half long hair. A cat moewed to me, looking straight to my eyes, with her green eyes, something about the cat reminded me of my own. Also, how could she even be there, crossing 4 lanes and still be alive, on the sand that only leads to the ocean, nothing friendly for a cat? Also, a first cat I've seen outside!

I txted back home, and there's 9 hrs of difference between California and Croatia, and yes, my boyfriend told me my black cat Nero is missing and cannot be found. He once fell out of balcony, and we live on the 5th floor, being scared by lightning. There was a stormy night. My boyfriend was already down looking for him. Then I told him, when Nero is scared, he won't come when you call his name, and if he's outside, which is not what he is familiar with, being born in apartment, he gets confused and so scared, and especially if in pain, he would stay hidden.

He went back, and found him in the grass, on the place he already looked. Took him to the vet, and he said the cat is stressed out and depends of hours if he has internal bleeding, but he recovered. That was his second fall. First one was 9 yrs ago, and no one would notice, but I had 4 cats, and noticed one was missing in my place, then saw open window and found him in the back of the building, broken paws. I guess somehow we stayed connected because too much of a coincidence. I never saw a stray or any cat in Alameda after, except one pet in the house.

I also had serious of accidents in USA, but each time preventing me from bigger bad or loss, just before it happened. Occurred each time someone wanted to take advantage of me or do me a harm. As warnings. As soon I break up any relations with people I was involved, my life goes back to normal.
