understandinguncertainty.org was produced by the Winton programme for the public understanding of risk based in the Statistical Laboratory in the University of Cambridge. The aim was to help improve the way that uncertainty and risk are discussed in society, and show how probability and statistics can be both useful and entertaining.

Many of the animations were produced using Flash and will no longer work.

When I was a child, my parents and I visited Rome for holidays and sightseeing. Close to the Vatican, we sat in a restaurant and our relatives - whom we meet quite frequently at home in southern Bavaria - passed by and we spotted them through the window and went out to ask them in. As far as I remember, we spent the afternoon together and had Italian ice cream.
