Well I Never!

Professor David Spiegelhalter of Cambridge University wants to know about your coincidences!

Country Vicar

My mother was at the village summer fair and saw a friend dressed very smartly in a red and white striped blazer, a straw boater, cream slacks and cream shoes. She jokingly asked him what on earth he was wearing, he replied 'My country vicar outfit, of course,'. 'You never see a country vicar wearing that!' she scoffed. Right on cue, our (usually not-so-dapper) vicar came round the corner in precisely the same outfit.

Birthday Coincidences

Though apparently fairly common, my little sister, my Grandad and I share the same birthday, the 17th October. This year however, is special, as it's my sister's 18th, my 21st and my Grandad's 80th birthday on the same day.

Dreaming real life

When I was 30 and working in London, one night I dreamed about a hairdresser who used to cut my hair when I was 8 - 13 years old in Nottingham. I hadn't seen him for 17 years. The next day on the way home I saw him on the tube. I asked him "are you Bryn, you used to have a hairdressers business in Nottingham", he said "yes". I didn't tell him about my dream!

Birmingham hotel sleepwalk

About 15 years ago I stayed one night on business at a large new city centre hotel in Birmingham. I didn't have any pyjamas with me and slept naked. At about 3 a.m. I got up and stepped out of my room, which clicked shut behind me just as I woke up.

2 Birthdate Pairs

Myself and my cousin have birthdays separated by 1 year minus 1 day. My father and his father (brothers) have birthdays separated by 2years minus 2days.

Number 13 (Time)

For the last 10 years, I've been plagued by the recurring number 13 on digital clocks. Several times a day, I will glance at the clock...and it's 13 minutes past...I get in the car, glance at the clock...13 minutes past, sit at the computer...13 minutes past. Sometimes of course, I get the 'double' 13:13!

Birthday coincidence

My uncle, two cousins and I all have the same birthday - Christmas Day. I have a large family so maybe not that much of a coincidence - I have 11 aunts/uncles and 43 cousins

Sarah Kelly

My 18 month old son, who was already a very chatty soul, was travelling in his pushchair across the nave a Gloucester Cathedral. Two women were walking towards us, one approximately mid sixties, the other around 50. Both had light hair. OH....exclaimed my son, pointing, in a really animated fashion... "NINA....NINAA!!!...Look mummy, NINA!" ( My sister in law WAS called Nina but she was dark skinned and dark haired, 36 years old and of Asian descent.) I replied "No, my love, THAT's not NIna".....and continued walking.

Bank PIN Coincidence.

I was sent the same 4 digit PIN by unconnected banks. One was for a credit card, the other was a savings account cash card. What are the chances of that happening?

Seeing the future

Many years ago, when I was about 21, I picked up a hitch hiker. We had been driving about 25 minutes and begun to get to know each other when he became agitated. I asked him what was wrong, and he explained that he could see crashed airplane debris all around us.
