Coincidence with number 5

I'm RZ [edited]. My email address contains a 5 [edited]. As you can see, there is a 5 there. What's more, I was in class 5 from primary school to high school all the time. But I was transferred to class 10 in the last semester of my high school life, which is a multiple of 5.

Birthday Newspaper

My husband and I bought an old house to renovate. In the large loft, on pulling up some rough boarding, we found a newspaper spread out between the joists, over the old ceiling plaster. The tabloid style newspaper’s front page faced up. It was a big picture of Princess Anne, celebrating her first birthday. The day I was born.

Parallel Universe Story

My husband went to high school with a boy who shared his birthday. We went out to a local Chinese restaurant for my husbands 49th birthday. We live in a city of 1.2 million. My husband noticed his old high school friend at a nearby table with his family. We went to say hello after dinner. Not only do they share a birthday (and by chance went to the same restaurant to celebrate) but they both married Leannes, and each had three children (two girls and one boy). It was a weird experience and it felt like parallel lives.

Multiple coincidences since moving countries

I first visited Australia in 2014 to complete a 2-month placement for my Masters degree, and moved here for good a year later. Since my first visit, a number of coincidences have happened which, despite not being superstitious, have made me feel I belong here. Here they are:

1. My Masters placement was in Melbourne but I had two friends in Queensland who I planned to visit while I was in Australia. One friend lived on the Gold Coast, the other about an hour away in Brisbane. These friends did not know one another - one I've known since high school, the other I first met in my early 20s - she stayed for a summer in London with a good friend of mine. I planned a trip to visit them both in their respective cities. Both friends had met Australian partners, one of whom was in hospital at the time of my visit, having been in a severe accident which had made the news. I recounted the story to the second friend, who said "we know him". My friends' partners had grown up together in the same part of Queensland and their families were close.

2. A friend invited me on a night out in London a few days before I moved to a Melbourne for good. Funnily enough, we went to see a Melbourne-based band as a friend she met whilst travelling in Australia 8 years prior was in the band. We met her friend in the pub for a drink first, went on to the gig had a great night.

A couple of weeks later, having arrived in Melbourne and not knowing many people, I went for a coffee morning at the house of a woman who I had been introduced to by email in my last week in my London job by a colleague who had recently returned from Australia. At the coffee morning, I mentioned the gig I had attended in London in passing. The host said "my son's in a band that has just toured in the UK" It turned out the host was the mother of the band member I had met on that night out in London two weeks prior and I was drinking coffee in the house he grew up in.

It gets weirder: about 18 months later I was settled in what is still my job now, and received post addressed to the woman who had hosted the coffee morning. I asked my boss about it and it was the same woman - it turned out she used to do my job about 15 years earlier.

3. I met my current partner in 2018 having been in Melbourne for 3 years or so. We discovered that we had lived next door to one another when I first came to Melbourne in 2014.

4. My brother and his girlfriend visited me from the UK for Christmas 2019 and while he was here, a friend we grew up with got in touch to say he was visiting Melbourne from New Zealand and suggested we meet up. I checked if my brother and his partner would like to come and he said "it's funny, we were asked for directions by someone who reminded me of that friend this morning, but of course I thought it couldn't possibly be him". Turned out it was!

Childhood Home

I underwrite mortgage loans. Of all the lenders in the USA, of all the loan underwriters in the USA, the childhood home that I lived in from 1974 to 1987 was the property/collateral that was assigned to me to underwrite!

Met People on the same Paris trip as myself, on an online server with thousands of people.

My friends and I play Minecraft. We were on one of the biggest servers with hundreds of thousands of people, at which point we joined a random lobby. We were chatting to a random girl, when we found out that she and her friends lived in the same city as us. Not only this, we found out while trading social medias that we went on a school trip to Paris at the same time in October half term 2019 and were in the SAME HOTEL.

Old coin showed up at my house in Utah and my parent's house in Texas

My grandfather collected coins. Seven years after he died, I bought a house in Salt Lake and had little more than a sleeping bag and a couple pieces of furniture to move into my place. On the third or fourth day in my home, there was nickel in the center of my living room dated 1918--the year my grandfather was born. I thought this was a strange coincidence, so I called my parents in San Antonio, Texas and was excited to tell them about this weird thing that had happened. When my parents answered the phone, I said, "I have a very strange story to tell you." My mother and father immediately cut me off and said, "No, we were just about to call you, we have a very strange story to tell you." We argued over who should go first, with me thinking, "Let me hear about a discount you found at Costco, and then I'll tell you my awesome story." Their story: That morning they were going to go for their morning walk around the neighborhood, and when they raised the garage door to leave, on the inside of their door was a 1918 Silver Dollar. "Can you believe it?!" they said, "Grandpa Dell left us a silver dollar in our garage....what's your story?" "Well," I said, "Grandpa Dell loved you more than me--he only left me a nickel." Then I told them my story of the 1918 nickel and all we could say was, "Wow."

Met old neighbors decades later

I grew up in New Jersey, then joined the military and moved around to many different places. 20 years later I moved to Las Vegas and joined a local artist cooperative. The first meeting I attended there was an older couple I thought looked familiar. When I introduced myself we realized they were my neighbors from my childhood home in New Jersey.

Zodiac killer message decoded

I read a current news article about how one of the letters the zodiac killer sent was recently decoded. Just a few minutes later I was doing a crossword puzzle, and one of the answers was "zodiac" and the very next clue was "decoded"
